Ice defeat Fargo

Indiana Ice News Release

For the second time in two days, the force was not with Fargo as the Indiana Ice topped the Fargo Force 4-1 at Scheels Arena.

Scott Conway (3A), Denis Smirnov (2G) and Dywer Tschantz (G, A) all led the way with multiple-point nights while Hayden Stewart made a memorable debut in an Indiana Ice uniform, allowing only one goal on 12 shots on net.

Much like last night's contest from Scheels Arena, Indy dominated the pace of the entire game. Strict defensive play limited the hosts to only 12 shots on net throughout the entire match and two lone scoring opportunities in the second period.

Smirnov scored all that was needed with his first goal of the night, a dandy deflection on a wide open net. Conway advanced the puck on net where his pass one-touched off Smirnov's tape and into the twine, giving the Ice a 2-0 lead early in the second period.

The Moscow, Russia native wouldn't be done there as a miscommunication in the trap led to a loose puck and an open net. Smirnov picked up the rubber and rifled it past Brendan Jensen for his second goal of the night and his fourth in three games.

Indy was provided plenty of scoring chances in the first period after receiving the first three power plays of the contest in the opening frame. Tschantz capitalized on the second of the three opportunites with his eighth goal of season. With the first of his three assists on the night on Tschantz's goal, Conway extended his point streak to a staggering 11 games.

Closing out the weekend scoring for Indy was Joshua Jacobs with his third goal of the season.

The win extends Indy's road win streak to an impressive eight games and helps maintain a four-point lead of the second place Dubuque Fighting Saints in the USHL's Eastern Conference.

Indy spends next week on the road with a trio of games against the Youngstown Phantoms (1/22), the Des Moines Buccaneers (1/24) and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (1/25).

Hockey returns to the Circle City on Thursday, January 30 against Team USA from Pan Am Pavilion at 7:05 pm. Students with a valid college ID are eligible for special $5 admission and $1 beer prices throughout the night. Must present valid college ID to receive special discounts.
