Ice Bears' Three-Goal Third Period Not Enough to Oust Rivermen
December 3, 2015 - SPHL (SPHL) - Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville, TN - Chris Wilson scored once in each of the first two periods, added an assist in the third and completed the hat-trick late in regulation to lead the Peoria Rivermen to a 4-3 win over the Knoxville Ice Bears on Thursday night.
Tim Hall's goal off a saucer pass from Wilson put Peoria ahead 3-0 at 6:21 of the third. Knoxville got goals from Corey Hale and Bo Driscoll 91 seconds apart to cut the deficit to one, but Wilson notched his third of the night with 3:49 remaining to put the Rivermen ahead for good.
Wilson first beat Knoxville goalie Bryan Hince at 9:04 of the first off a slap shot from the high slot. He scored 41 seconds into the second frame after gliding across the crease and sliding the puck past Hince off his backhand.
Peoria had two shorthanded breakaway chances on the same power play when Hall and Dan Bremner each broke free in the neutral zone. Hince turned away both tries to keep the score at 2-0 heading into the second intermission. After Wilson's third goal put the Rivermen ahead 4-2, Zack LaRue scored off a rebound with 15 seconds left in regulation.
The Ice Bears will head to Columbus on Friday to take on the Cottonmouths before returning to the Civic Coliseum to host Huntsville Saturday night for Star Wars Night. Don't forget to bring a new pair of gloves to donate to KARM for the Ice Bears annual Drop The Gloves campaign sponsored by Ogle, Elrod & Baril.
