Ice Bears Lose to Macon 4-3

Knoxville, TN Chris Joseph scored the game-winner with 9:06 remaining and the Macon Mayhem defeated Knoxville 4-3 Friday night. The Ice Bears trailed 3-0 in the first period before rallying to tie the game in the third. Knoxville has lost six straight while Macon ran its winning streak to four games.

Andrew Bonazza tied the game with a rebound goal on the power play at 5:58 of the third period. Joseph put Macon ahead for good on the man advantage with a rip from the blue line that zipped past Dylan Wells.

Macon got on the board just 1:07 into the game off a snipe by Brandon Pfiel from the left point. John Siemer made it 2-0 by flipping a backhand from the edge of the right circle over the left pad of Brian Billet.

Siemer helped Macon extend the lead when he fought for the puck in the right corner and slid it to Daniel Gentzler along the end line. Gentzler's between-the-legs pass setup Stephen Pierog's goal and ended Billet's night after only 13:53. Billet finished with 9 saves on 12 shots before being replaced by Wells. Wells finished with 11 saves on 12 shots.

Doug Reid scored the first goal for Knoxville by swatting a bouncing puck in the slot with his backhand over the left shoulder of Jordan Ruby at 16:38. Reid's assist on Corey Hale's laser from the left point closed the gap to 3-2 for the only goal of the second period. the game.
