Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

Knoxville, TN - Zack LaRue scored twice, Mark Pustin had a goal and two assists and the Knoxville Ice Bears defeated the Fayetteville FireAntz 5-3 on Friday.

It was Knoxville's second win over Fayetteville in as many nights. The two teams will cap off a weekend series Sunday at 3PM.

LaRue scored off a rebound less than two minutes into the game. Dan McDougall doubled Knoxville's lead with a blast from the left point for his first goal as an Ice Bear less than three minutes later.

Fayetteville got on the board at 6:50 of the first when Cole Wilson thread a pass from the right wall to in front of the crease to an open Nick Lazorko, who beat Bryan Hince with a one-timer.

LaRue notched his second of the first period at 15:58 when he and Doug Reid broke loose on a 2-on-1. Reid fed a backhand saucer pass to the left hash where LaRue controlled the puck with his left skate and put it past Parker Van Buskirk to push Knoxville ahead 3-1. Joseph Manno scored in the final minute of the first to cut the Ice Bears lead back to one after 20 minutes.

Knoxville struck early in the second on the penalty kill when an errant pass was chased down in the Fayetteville zone by Trevor Hertz who slid the puck to the slot, where Dennis Sicard was all alone. Sicard buried a wrist shot past Van Buskirk for his 9th goal this season.

Fayetteville answered midway through the second with a goal from Josh McQuade before Pustin scored a power play goal off a rebound to give the Ice Bears another two goal lead to end the second period.
