Ice Bears Fall to RiverKings
February 2, 2016 - SPHL (SPHL) - Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville, TN - The Mississippi RiverKings scored three goals in the third period and came back to defeat the Knoxville Ice Bears 3-2 at the Civic Coliseum Tuesday night. Cullen Bradshaw, Matt Harrington and Bret Peppler all scored for Mississippi.
Peppler, who was traded to Mississippi by the Ice Bears in January, scored the game-winner off a wrist shot that beat Bryan Hince from the right circle at 15:25 of the third. Hince finished with 26 saves.
Knoxville struck first with 56 seconds remaining in the opening frame when Andrew Bonazza fed a pass from behind the net to Brad Pawlowski at the goal line, who deked in front of the crease and flipped a backhand over the outstretched body of RiverKings goaltender Garrett Sheehan.
The Ice Bears extended the lead with 48 seconds left in the second when Pawlowski lifted the puck out of the zone and John Clewlow carried it down the left wing. Clewlow stopped at the half board and slid the puck to a streaking Garrett Vermeersch through the left circle. Vermeersch's backhand beat the blocker of Sheehan for his fourth goal in a Knoxville uniform.
Knoxville continues its four-game homestead with a two-game weekend series against Louisiana on Friday and Saturday. Mississippi next travels to Macon on Friday.
