Iowa Cubs News Release

METAIRIE, LA - Taylor Davis hit a grand slam to help the Iowa Cubs (7-7) take an 8-3 victory over the New Orleans Baby Cakes (5-9), Wednesday at Shrine on Airline.

John Andreoli set the tone for the game with a leadoff home run, his first long ball of the season and the 10th leadoff bomb of his Iowa Cubs career. Iowa went on to score three in the first inning with RBI hits from Mark Zagunis and Davis.

The I-Cubs rallied for five more runs in the second inning to chase Scott Copeland (1-2) from the game. Another solo shot from Andreoli and the grand slam from Davis made up the big inning for Iowa. It was Davis' second career grand slam and the I-Cubs' third of the season.

New Orleans broke the 8-0 shutout with a run in the fifth and added two more in the seventh, but couldn't make up the difference.

Seth Frankoff made the spot-start for the I-Cubs and gave up a single hit, walked two, struck out three and was tagged with one earned run in 4.1 innings. Miguel Mejia (1-0) took his first win of the season with 2.0 shutout frames.

Davis finished the game with five RBI to tie his career high. Andreoli, Victor Caratini and Chesny Young gave Iowa a boost as they each recorded two hits.

Iowa and New Orleans are back in action tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. Follow the action on www.iowacubs.com and AM 940.
