I-Cubs Activate Brett Jackson

May 9, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - Iowa Cubs News Release

Colorado Springs, CO - The Cubs have activated OF Brett Jackson from the disabled list and placed IF Edwin Maysonet on the D.L. with a sprained right ankle.

Jackson went on the disabled on May 1 with turf toe on his right foot. Jackson's last start in the outfield was April 15 due to the injury, but he remained active and saw time as a pinch-hitter or designated hitter in eight games before going on the DL. Jackson is batting .219 (14-for-64) with two doubles, two triples, two home runs, nine RBI, seven runs scored, and three stolen bases in 19 games with Iowa this season. The Cubs drafted Jackson in the first-round pick (31st overall) in 2009 out of the University of California-Berkley. He has played with Iowa in each of the last three seasons and made his big league debut last year in August. He batted .175 (21-for-120) with four homers and nine RBI in 44 games with Chicago.

Maysonet is batting .250 (16-for-64) with two doubles, a home run, and seven RBI in 24 games with Iowa this season. He has seen time at all four infield positions plus three games in left field. He had a season-high five-game hitting streak snapped yesterday when he entered the game in the eighth inning on a double switch and flied out in his only at-bat leading off the top of the ninth. The Cubs signed Maysonet as a minor league free agent on October 31. He has spent time in the big leagues with Houston (2008-09) and Milwaukee (2012) in his career.

The Cubs play game three of a four-game series at Colorado Springs this afternoon at 12:05 p.m. Central time. RH Drew Carpenter (1-3, 7.77) will start for the Cubs against a former I-Cub, Chris Volstad (0-0, 4.22) for the Sky Sox. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed live at iowacubs.com with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 11:45 a.m.
