Hurley and Tingler named Cal League All-Stars

SALEM, VA-- The California League announced its roster of representatives for the annual California League/ Carolina League All-Star game to be played in Salem, VA on Tuesday June 27, 2006. This will be the tenth time in eleven season the cross coastal match-up has occurred.

The Bakersfield Blaze will send two representatives to this years' game. Starting pitcher Eric Hurley and centerfielder Jayce Tingler will make the trip on behalf of the Bakersfield Blaze and their Major League Affiliate the Texas Rangers.

Hurley, 20, is currently fifth in the league in ERA at 2.69 and his 72 strikeouts rank third. He has struck out as many as 15 in one game this season. Hurley will be the youngest pitcher on the roster and second youngest player overall, behind 19 year old Visalia shortstop Reid Brignac. The Jacksonville, FL native was the first draft pick of the Texas Rangers in 2004 (30th overall), and came into the season as the number five prospect in the organization according to Baseball America.

Tingler, 25, has been an on base machine through the first half pf the season. He has been the Blaze lead-off hitter and centerfielder in every game he has played, and currently ranks second in the league in batting average at .330. His also possesses the third longest hitting streak in the league at 17 games, and his 29 consecutive games on base are the second longest streak in the Cal League this year. Tingler was selected in the minor league portion of the annual Rule 5 draft from the Toronto Blue Jays in December. He last made an All-Star team in the Florida State League in 2004.

The Carolina League currently leads the series 4-3- 2. The game ended in a tie in its first season, and again in 2002, when Blaze outfielder Rocco Baldelli was named the MVP.
