Houston Dynamo Quotes- Tuesday February 28

February 28, 2017 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - Houston Dynamo FC News Release

Houston Dynamo Head coach Wilmer Cabrera

(on preseason success helping the team) "It helps because it continues believing what we started built on. At the beginning of the season we said, 'This is what we need to do, this is how we are going to play, this is work we need to do.' When you start throughout these games that we had in preseason, getting results you can say, 'Oh yeah, it's working.' So, if it's working during the preseason it can work during the season."

(on planning the training sessions) "We plan the training sessions ahead of time; it just happened that we made some changes to today's practice because we thought about practicing here yesterday, but we were able to change it to today. We plan our sessions according on how heavy we want them to be and what we want the players to work on. There are times when we are going to do heavier sessions, days in which we will work tactically, days where we will work on speed, days in which we need to work on our finishes. Depending what we need and where we are trying to get from our players, we organize them. We usually do it a month ahead of time or 15 days ahead of time, that might change the day before, but we usually have already studied it and ready to go."

(on his preseason analysis) "The preseason went well because we did the work we planned. We used those preseason games and tournaments to work on our soccer and get the players the minutes they needed. Thank God, everything is going well thus far. We hope we can reflect this work and results starting on Saturday. That is when it truly matters."

(on how the new players have come together) "This far they are doing well. They are motivated, they are happy (and) they have adapted well. We need to keep working in it, their adaptation doesn't take five weeks, it takes a lot more time."

Houston Dynamo MF Ricardo Clark

(on the game versus Seattle Sounders FC) "It's exciting, we are looking forward to it. The preseason has been very positive and we just want to carry that over into the season."

(on the positive takeaways from preseason) "The chemistry, the process to build a team. We have a new start, a new group of players, a new coach. There's a lot that goes into that. So, we've been slowly building up during the preseason, it's been good and we want to carry that into the new season."

(on the difference in preparation this preseason) "For one, like I've said before. A lot of turnover, a lot of new faces. The playing style, a lot of new languages. Also, this preseason has been one of the hardest physically. We've done a lot of fitness, especially at the beginning of preseason, a lot of tactics. It's the most I've done with the club since I've been here."

(on assuming a leadership role as one of the veterans on the team) "I think (head coach) Wilmer (Cabrera) has been good at just letting us be ourselves. I've taken it upon myself to take that leadership role to the next level, to the best as I can. Whether it be more vocal or by example, I just want to improve each and every day as a player and person."

(on the relationship with the midfielders and strikers) "Without giving away our game plan to the rest of the league, he wants us to be hungry, to play both sides of the ball and that's mainly our style. Obviously, keep the ball and utilize our offensive players to do the job going forward."

Houston Dynamo FW Erick Torres

(on the work done during the preseason) "We did a lot of work with our fitness coach, Paul Caffrey. We are ready, we want for the season to begin. The team is motivated, we are strong and we are close to each other."

(on the team's chemistry) "Without a doubt, we have done a great preseason. We had done a good job. (Forward) Romell Quioto and (forward) Alberth Elis have adapted well to the team; we just need to keep helping them on and off the field. We got to continue with that chemistry. I think, the team is going to attack a lot, we are going to go deep in the games we play and that is going to be important because it will create scoring opportunities, which without no doubt we are going to finish."
