Houston Dynamo FC News Release
Houston Dynamo DF Kevin Garcia
(on how the team is coming along) "The team has been coming together quite nicely. I think. The team is progressing more and more every week. We have been focusing more on little things and a lot on tactics, and it shows in the game how we have improved a lot in our defensive approach and offensive approach to the game. Still working on the little details before the start of the season. Hopefully, we can just perfect everything in these two last matches of the preseason."
(on his personal development) "We have to handle a lot of tactics with (head coach) Wilmer (Cabrera). It is nothing new to me but it's always something new to learn with Wilmer. Defensively, I am still learning a great deal, starting with the new back line and meshing with all the guys together. Defensively, I certainly have improved a lot."
(on the team's defense) "The back line is strong. We have a lot players in the defensive position. We have covered our position, we haven't let up many opportunities in the last games that we had and we want to keep it that way. It is a good showing of what our defense can do."
Houston Dynamo DF George Malki
(on how the team is coming along) "It is always a process when you have a new coach and a lot of new faces. Since the first day preseason started, (head coach) Wilmer (Cabrera) has always been about tightening the locker room and everything is family, we cover for each other. I think we are gelling, it's going to take time on the field to get the results that we want and what we've been working during practice. I think it has been great, this trip has been great and we have been improving every day."
(on his personal improvement) "I had (head coach) Wilmer (Cabrera) since I was on the U-17 national team, and last year with the Toros. Playing right back is a fairly new position for me, but they have been helping me a lot with the tactical part of the game and where I need to be. Playing at a higher level, speed is quicker so you have get a cleaner touch and make decisions quicker. I think it's getting better."
(on the team's defense) "I think the back line is solid. Every guy on the field (and) in the back line, we've got to defend with the forwards, the midfielders and the defenders. We are really just trying to cover each other and keep clean sheets."
