Houston Aeros Take Down Oklahoma City, Win Fourth Straight

Houston, TX - The Houston Aeros (10-6-1-2, 23 points) defeated the Oklahoma City Barons (11-5-1-2, 25 points) 2-1 in a shootout on Thursday night in front of 3,505 fans at Toyota Center. Houston goalie Matt Hackett (7-5-2) made 23 saves in regulation and stopped four of six attempts for the shootout win. Nick Palmieri scored Houston's lone goal in regulation, helping the team to its fourth straight win. Forwards Jason Zucker, Zack Phillips and Kris Foucault netted shootout goals to push the Aeros past the Barons. Oklahoma City goalie Yann Danis (9-4-2) stopped 32 of 33 shots in regulation and three of six in the shootout defeat. Barons defenseman Justin Schultz scored his league-leading 11th goal of the season. Houston will meet Oklahoma City again at 7:05 p.m. on Friday at Toyota Center.

The two teams traded goals in the first period, with Houston striking first for a 1-0 lead at 5:01 of the opening frame. Forward Nick Palmieri cut down the left wing of the Barons zone, making a move towards the slot. Palmieri snapped a wrist shot over the glove of Yann Danis for his sixth goal of the season. Right wing Justin Fontaine and defenseman Brian Connelly each had an assist on the goal. Oklahoma City countered in similar fashion, as defenseman Justin Schultz scored his league-leading 11th goal of the season. Dane Byers and Curtis Hamilton each had an assist on the Barons first goal of the night, tying the game 1-1 at 11:09.

After a scoreless second period, third period and overtime, the teams went to a shootout to decide the victor. Houston went three of six with shootout goals by Zucker, Phillips and Foucault. Oklahoma City went two for six with shootout goals by Justin Schultz and Toni Rajala.

Houston concludes a three-game home stand with Oklahoma City on Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Toyota Center. The Aeros will host Girl Scout Night on Friday and celebrate the final day of Movember. The team will also host a Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive. Every fan that brings a jar of peanut butter or jelly, will receive two free tickets to a select future Aeros home game. The Girl Scouts are running the donation program to benefit the homeless.
