Houston Aeros Sign Derek Couture

Houston, TX - Houston Aeros General Manager Jim Mill announced on Monday the team has signed right wing Derek Couture to a professional tryout agreement (PTO).

The 28-year old right wing joins the Aeros after starting the season in the ECHL with the Ontario Reign. In 28 games with the Reign, Couture scored 13 goals and added 16 assists for 29 points. The veteran forward was fourth on the team in goals scored and first with 138 penalty minutes. Over his eight-year pro career, Couture has played in 293 AHL games for the Binghamton Senators, Connecticut Whale, Hartford Wolf Pack, Quad City Flames and the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound forward has 81 career AHL points off 39 goals and 42 assists, while adding 440 penalty minutes. The Calgary, AB native has also played in 143 ECHL games, scoring 56 times and adding 77 assists for 133 points, to go along with 452 penalty minutes.

The Aeros will host the Oklahoma City Barons at 5:05 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 1. The game marks the beginning of a three-game home stand to ring in the New Year. The Aeros will host Texas at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4 and San Antonio at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5.
