July 9, 2013 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) - Charlotte Hounds
Major League Lacrosse today announced that Charlotte Hounds attack Mike Sawyer along with Rochester Rattlers midfielder John Ranagan have been added to the roster for the 2013 MLL All-Star Game presented by Moe's Southwest Grill . The rookies will be replacing midfielders Paul Rabil of the Boston Cannons and Kyle Dixon of the Chesapeake Bayhawks who are unavailable due to injury. However, Rabil will still participate in the All-Star festivities and be on hand to greet fans and sign autographs.
"As a replacement player I felt sorry for the injury that had taken place in front of me," said Sawyer. "But I also realize what an honor this is because of the amount of talent in this league." Sawyer, a Charlotte-area native, was drafted by the Hounds with their first selection (8th overall) in the 2013 MLL Collegiate Draft. In seven games this season, the attackman has tallied nine goals and added four assists. He earned Cascade Rookie of the Week honors following his MLL debut on May 17, when he recorded three points (1g, 2a) in a loss to the Hamilton Nationals.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to participate in the game, especially because it is in my hometown," said Sawyer. "I think it's even more of a privilege to play in front of friends and family and our hometown Hounds fans. I'm also hoping to get into the hardest shot contest to see what I can put up." Sawyer joins Hounds teammates Ryan Flanagan, Peet Poillon, Brett Schmidt and Ryan Young as 2013 MLL All-Stars.
Meanwhile, Ranagan has recorded 12 goals in six games for the Rattlers this season. He joins teammates Ned Crotty, Jordan MacIntosh, Mike Manley and Matt Striebel on the All-Star roster.
The 2013 MLL All-Star Game presented by Moe's Southwest Grill takes place on Saturday, July 13 at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte. The action begins at 7:00pm and will be broadcast live on ESPN2. Tickets are still available through Ticketmaster on the Major League Lacrosse All-Star page or by calling the Hounds at 704-206-1515.
