Hounds Receive Commitment from Kerins

July 17, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Soo Greyhounds News Release

Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis is pleased to announce today the commitment from 2018 draft pick RORY KERINS.

The Caledon, ON native was the Greyhounds' second overall selection in this past April's OHL Priority Selection.

"We are very excited to receive commitment from Rory and his family to our organization. Not only was Rory one of the highest point producing players in the GTHL last year, but Rory was one of the highest point producing players in the entire OHL, 2002 draft class" began Raftis.

"It's evident that Rory is a very skilled and has great hockey IQ from watching him play. What sets him apart, and is something we look for in all future Greyhounds, is his ability to be creative with the puck. This skill set coupled with his highly competitive nature gives him an edge and creates opportunities for the players around him. We look forward to adding Rory to our program and partnering with him in his on-ice and classroom development in the Soo" he concluded.

The 5.10, 164-lb centreman was Captain last season with the Mississauga Rebels Minor Midgets before being chosen in the 4th Round, 71st overall.

"I believe I'm a two-way playmaking forward who does his job in all three zones. I love to make nice plays and make the right hockey played" stated Kerins.

In 42 games played, Kerins notched 31 goals and 42 assists, good for 73 points.

In tournament action, he advanced to the championship game as a member of Team GTHL Red, where he was the team's second leading scorer with 5 assists in 4 games played.

At the 2018 OHL Cup, he recorded 2 assists in 4 games played.

"It has always been a dream of mine to sign with a great OHL organization like the Greyhounds. Now that the dream has come true, it's an amazing feeling" began Rory.

"I'm excited to be a Soo Greyhound because I feel like I fit very well with the style of the game they play, lots of puck possession and a skilled game. On top of that I've heard a lot of great things about the organization and I can't wait to get started" he concluded.

Rory is the second member of the Kerins household to advance their playing career as his brother Liam played in the NCAA on scholarship with RIT.
