May 1, 2009 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Soo Greyhounds News Release

General Manager Dave Torrie announced this afternoon that the Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club will select Daniel Catenacci with the first overall pick in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection.

"As an organization we are very pleased to add a player of Daniel Catenacci's calibre. He brings numerous qualities to the game including outstanding speed, puck sills, play making abilities and a true desire to compete and be a two-way player. As a young man he is extremely confident, well-spoken and he truly embraces the challenges that are associated with being the 1st overall pick. I feel his play on the ice will speak for itself but the way he carries himself off the ice will allow him to become a team leader and a great ambassador for the Soo Greyhounds and the Ontario Hockey League" stated Torrie.

The OHL Priority Selection is set for tomorrow (Saturday, May 2nd) beginning at 9 a.m. and you can follow all the live progress at www.soogreyhounds.com along with www.ontariohockeyleague.com

Daniel becomes the third player in franchise history to be the recipient of the Jack Ferguson Award as the first overall selection in the OHL Priority Selection (Eric Lindros -1989 and Troy Mallette -1986).

Catenacci is coming off a injury-shortened season with the York Simcoe Express Minor Midgets where in 39 games played Daniel had 42 goals and 45 assists (for 87 points) to go along with 152 PIM.

Fans will get their first look at the newest Hound on the ice at the team's Prospect Orientation Camp on May 16/17 at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Daniel will also be a guest of the OHL's Priority Selection webcast on Saturday morning.

From the OHL Priority Selection Preview and Media Guide

"Catenacci has to be considered one of the most dynamic offensive players available this year. He possesses a lethal combination of speed, skill and grit. He is one of the best skaters at this age group, displaying speed quickness and unbelievable acceleration. He has the ability to go from a dead stop to full speed with his first few strides. Every time Catenacci is on the ice the potential for the puck going into the back of the oppositions net exists"

From the Hockey News

"You're getting an all-around player who you can play in any situation of the game. His speed and his ability to create is incredible" (Express Assistant Cocah Peter Higley)

"He's an explosive skater with tremendous puck skills and scoring ability. He was actually suspended for two games recently, so he's got that edge as well. He can go through a team and can make other on his line better" (Feature by Rory Boylen)
