Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Davenport, IA - After 12 innings and nearly four hours of play, the Bowling Green Hot Rods (14-7, 52-37) defeated the Quad Cities River Bandits (12-7, 50-38) by a final score of 4-3 on Thursday at Modern Woodmen Park. Luke Maile led the offense with three hits, including a home run, and two runs batted in. Andrew Toles provided the winning hit in the 12th inning and ended the contest with two hits.

Quad Cities and Bowling Green each scored quickly. The River Bandits had two runners aboard in the first inning for Jesse Wierzbicki, who reached on an infield single coupled with a throwing error that scored Jordan Scott for a 1-0 lead. Luke Maile evened the score by tagging Vincent Velasquez with a solo home run to left field during the third inning.

The Hot Rods built on their momentum heading into the middle innings. Dylan Floro rallied from an unearned run in the first to pitch five scoreless innings. Floro picked up a lead during that time with two Bowling Green runs in the fifth. Brandon Martin gave the Hot Rods a 2-1 lead by scoring Joey Rickard with a single. Martin came in on a Maile double later in the inning, making it a 3-1 edge.

Bowling Green's lead held up until the eighth inning. Jose Molina opened the frame with a strikeout and a walk before he was relieved by Ryan Garton. Quad Cities responded with back-to-back RBI doubles from Wierzbicki and Rio Ruiz to tie the contest at 3-3. With two outs, the River Bandits loaded the bases but could not bring across the go-ahead run.

Despite good chances for Quad Cities to take a walk-off victory, Bowling Green got through a few tough situations. Tyler Goeddel caught a fly ball in foul territory with two runners in scoring position to finish the ninth inning. Patrick Leonard handled a bases-loaded groundout that ended the tenth. Garton wrapped up the 11th with a strikeout while the winning run was on base.

The Hot Rods finally broke through and won the game in the 12th. A leadoff double by Martin was promptly followed by a single from Toles that scored Martin and put the Hot Rods ahead 4-3. In the bottom of the inning, Quad Cities quickly got Jobduan Morales to third base with one away, but he was thrown at home plate by Goeddel on a ground ball off the bat of Brian Blasik. After that chance, Stone Speer finished his first Hot Rods save with a strikeout of Austin Elkins.

Friday's series finale is set for 7:00 PM CDT at Modern Woodmen Park. RHP Reinaldo Lopez (3-4, 2.76) will aim for a Hot Rods sweep against RHP Chris Devenski (0-0, 0.00) in his River Bandits debut. Chris Kleinhans-Schulz will call the action, starting at 6:30 PM CDT with the Forever Communications Pregame Show on the Hot Rods Radio Network (1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM and 1340wbgn.com).
