Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Lansing, MI - After giving up two runs combined in the first two games of their series, the Bowling Green Hot Rods squandered an early eight-run lead and lost to the Lansing Lugnuts by a score of 12-0 on Saturday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Starting with a RBI double from catcher Rene Pinto and a pair of RBI singles by infielder Miles Mastrobuoni and outfielder Garrett Whitley in the second inning, Bowling Green took an early 3-0 lead against Lugnuts starter Andy Ravel.

With Ravel still in the game to start the third inning, Bowling Green scored five more runs to take a commanding eight-run lead. The inning was highlighted by a two-run double by Whitley, another RBI single from Mastrobuoni, a sacrifice fly Pinto and a RBI single by shortstop Lucius Fox .

Unfortunately for the Hot Rods, the lead would not hold against the Lugnuts offense.

With Bowling Green starter Ethan Clark out of the game after four innings of one-hit scoreless baseball, the Lugnuts got back into the game with six runs against Hot Rods lefty Porter Clayton in the sixth inning to cut their deficit to two.

One inning later, Lansing used four walks by Hot Rods righty Elias Torres (L, 0-1) to score four runs, turn the large deficit into a lead, and go up 10-8.

In the eighth, the Lugnuts scored two more runs against Robbie Tenerowicz to complete the comeback.

The outing on the mound was the first of the career for Tenerowicz, who played his first nine games of the season at three different positions in the infield.

From the start of the sixth inning to the end of the eighth inning, the Lugnuts scored 12 unanswered runs.

Bowling Green scored their final funs in the ninth inning on a RBI triple by Whitley and a sacrifice fly by Mastrobuoni.

Whitley finished the career day a homer short of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with four runs batted in and three runs scored.

Mastrobuoni tied a career-high with three runs batted in and finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate.

The 10 runs and 13 hits were a season-high for Bowling Green.

With the loss, the Hot Rods streak of holding the Lugnuts to six or fewer runs in 21 straight games dating back to the 2016 season has been snapped.

The Hot Rods will try to secure a series victory against the Lugnuts on Sunday. In the finale of their four-game series, Adrian Navas is expected to toe the rubber for Bowling Green while Lansing will counter with righty Justin Maese.

First pitch is at 1:05 p.m. central time at Cooley Law School Stadium.
