Hot Rods Keep Their Winning Ways in Dayton

April 19, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1) - Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Dayton, OH - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (11-3) won the series opener 5-2 over the Dayton Dragons (4-10) at Fifth Third Field on Friday evening. In a balanced offensive performance, all nine of Bowling Green's hitters collected a base hit for the first time this season, including a three-hit game for Tommy Coyle and two-hit efforts from Leonardo Reginatto, Justin O'Conner, and Tyler Goeddel.

Three Dayton errors in the second inning helped the Hot Rods get on the scoreboard first. O'Conner and Coyle reached base on misplays from the Dragon defense. Patrick Leonard drove O'Conner in for the first run, and Marty Gantt scored Coyle on a single. Later in the frame with two outs and the bases loaded, another error on a batted ball from Goeddel allowed Leonard to add one more run.

RHP Dylan Floro cruised through the first three innings before the Dragons broke through in the fourth. Jesse Winker came in on an RBI single from Seth Mejias-Brean. After a double from Jeff Gelalich, Mejias-Brean scored from third on a groundout off the bat of Junior Arias. Floro shut the door after that, finishing five full innings with three strikeouts en route to his first win of the season.

The Hot Rods scored in the sixth inning when Joey Rickard was brought in with a two-out single by Andrew Toles. LHP Brandon Henderson relieved Floro in the home half of the inning and held Dayton scoreless over two innings pitched.

In the eighth inning, Bowling Green scored again as Luke Maile hit a deep fly ball to right field that scored Goeddel after tagging up at third. RHP Nick Sawyer then entered for the Hot Rods and did not allow any Dragon runs in the final two frames. Sawyer coaxed Tanner Rahier into a foul fly out to finish the game and secure his first save as a Hot Rod.

The victory gives Bowling Green a one-game lead early in its three-game series at Dayton. The Hot Rods are also winners in ten of their last 11 games dating back to a 5-0 shutout victory at South Bend on April 7.

Bowling Green and Dayton will square off again on Saturday evening at Fifth Third Field. First pitch is scheduled for just after 6:00 PM CDT as Hot Rods LHP Sean Bierman (2-0, 0.00) opposes Dragons RHP Robert Stephenson (0-2, 7.11). The broadcast can be found on BGHotRods.com, 1340WBGN.com, and 1340 WBGN-AM.
