Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release


Bowling Green, KY - The Hot Rods open a seven-game home stand at Bowling Green Ballpark beginning Friday night with series against the South Bend Silver Hawks (May 13-15) and the West Michigan Whitecaps (May 17-19). Below you'll find a list of unique events, promotions, and story ideas that will be at the ballpark this week.

Friday, May 13 - South Bend Silver Hawks - 7:05 PM

Scout Night Sleepover: Hundreds of scouts will attend the game with their troops, earning special Hot Rods Scout Patches. After the game, scouts will pitch tents on the field, enjoy a movie on the big screen, and spend the night at the ballpark. Shawnee Trail Cub Scouts and Kentuckiana Girl Scouts are both coordinating fundraisers in connection with the game.

Relay for Life Night: Local Relay for Life teams will be on-hand for a special check presentation and recognition before the game.

Soap Box Derby Night: A special night for Derby participants featuring a parade with more than 300 riders.

Saturday, May 14 - South Bend Silver Hawks - Doubleheader (2 7-inning games) - 5:05 PM

Fireworks! After the second game

Pitch, Hit, & Run: The Hot Rods will team with Bowling Green Parks & Recreations to host the annual Pitch, Hit, and Run Competition coordinated through Major League Baseball. Kids can compete for free at the ballpark from 9-11 AM. Winners will be announced during the second game of the doubleheader and will advance to the regional PHR competition at Bowling Green Ballpark on May 21.

Holley Hot Rod Parade: A pre-game event featuring local car owners competing in a season-long promotion to earn the Holley Hot Rod Trophy at the end of the season.

Scholarship Presentation: The Realtors Association of Southern Kentucky will award their annual scholarships to three high school seniors based on their winnings essays on "Why Homeownership Matters".

Forever Green Recycling Project: Forever Green, a Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana initiative, will be at the ballpark collecting and recycling electronic waste from 2pm-4pm. They will be collecting items like printer cartridges, radios, televisions, cell phones and batteries, etc.

Sunday, May 15 - South Bend Silver Hawks - 2:05 PM

Axle's Birthday Bash: Axle will be joined by over a DOZEN of his mascot friends from schools, restaurants, and other teams for "Mascot Mania".

Kids Club Sunday: Hot Rods Kids Club members will have an exclusive Meet and Greet with Axle and friends.

Special National Anthem Performer: Recording artist Clay Underwood will perform the National Anthem representing NECCO, a foster care agency coordinating a fundraiser for the game.

Smucker's Uncrustables Fun Run: After the game, kids 14 & under can run the bases after the game.

Post-game Softball Game: The Kelly Autism Program hosts a charity softball game to raise money for the organization and further its efforts to raise awareness for autism.

Silver Hawks feature Yazy Arbelo, who leads Midwest League with 9 HR and 29 RBI.

Tuesday, May 17 - West Michigan Whitecaps - 11:05 AM

The RJ Young Ballpark Businessperson Special: A day game for fans to enjoy baseball while taking an extended lunch at the ballpark. A special $10 game and buffet ticket provides the opportunity to take co-workers and clients out to lunch (or to escape the office)

School's Out Special: In honor of Election Day, parents looking to do something during the day with their kids can take advantage of a game ticket/lunch pack/Kids Play Area pass for only $10. All kids 14 and under can run the bases after the game.

Wednesday, May 18 - West Michigan Whitecaps - 6:35 PM

Facebook Fans Night: A nationally-recognized promotion comes to fruition - entirely designed by the fans. Since February, the Hot Rods Facebook Fans voted on game elements from jersey color, discount food and merchandise items, and the pattern mowed into the grass.

Special Tickets Prices: In addition to voting on game elements, Facebook fans can purchase tickets for just $6.00

Winning Charity: One local charity, as voted on by Facebook fans, will receive $1 from every ticket purchase for the May 18th game by Facebook fans. This was the final voting element - still underway - in the Facebook Fans Night promotion.

Thursday, May 18 - West Michigan Whitecaps - 7:05 PM

Pink at the Park: The Hot Rods teamed with Mary Kay to raise money for Barren River Area Safe Space and the Mary Kay Foundation. Mary Kay will feature a Pink Car Parade and check presentation before the game.

Special Pink Jerseys: The Hot Rods will be wearing special pink jerseys designed for the game. The jerseys are being auctioned off in a silent auction to raise additional money for Mary Kay Foundation and BRASS.

Special $3 Pink drinks in the new "Garage Bar" at BG Ballpark

Rewarding Readers: Local students will be honored for their completion of Axle's Book Buddies Reading Program presented by The Law Firm of Attorney Flora Templeton Stuart. Each student read at least five books outside of the classroom in an effort with Attorney Stuart to promote literacy in all students.

West Michigan Team Notes:

Whitecaps Rob Brantly (.368), Luis Castillo (.357), and Hernan Perez (.342) are all ranked in the top ten in batting average in the Midwest League. All three are also ranked in the top ten in on-base percentage.

INF Nick Castellanos was drafted in the first round of the 2010 draft.

Manager Ernie Young played eight years in the major leagues with Oakland, Kansas City, Arizona, Detroit, and Cleveland.
