Hoskins Earns Eastern League Player of the Week Honors

Reading Fightin Phils first baseman Rhys Hoskins has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of June 6th to June 12th, the league announced on Monday. He becomes the third member of the Fightins 2016 squad to pick up the honors from the Eastern League this season.

Hoskins batted .467 (14-for-30) with three doubles, four home runs, 10 RBIs, six runs scored, two walks and a .967 slugging percentage in seven games last week. The 23-year had at least one hit in six of the seven games he played in last week and had multiple hits in five of those games, including going 3-for-3 with a three-run homer in a 12-8 win over Altoona on Saturday night.

Among all Eastern League players last week, Hoskins was the leader in hits (14), total bases (29), RBIs (10), slugging percentage (.967) and OPS (1.482) last week and tied for the lead in home runs (4). He also finished ranked among the weekly leaders in extra-base hits (7-2nd), batting average (.467-3rd), on-base percentage (.515-4th), runs scored (6-tied 4th) and doubles (3-tied 7th).

Hoskins currently ranks second in the league in homers (16) and third in RBIs (46) while batting .278 in 59 games for the Fightins this season.

The Sacramento, California native entered the season rated by MLB.com as the 19th best prospect in the Philadelphia farm system and was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the fifth round of the 2014 draft out of Sacramento State.
