Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release

GREENSBORO - Jay Voss gave up eight runs in his three innings on the mound Thursday as Kannapolis built an early lead and cruised to a 10-5 victory over Greensboro.

The home team out-hit the visiting Intimidators, but stranded 11 runners on base and committed a season-high, six errors; as a result, the Hoppers fell to 1-2 in their current six-game homestand and 5-3 in the second half.

Each of Greensboro's top five batters in the lineup collected multiple hits in the contest as Mike Stanton and Matt Dominguez each turned in 3-for-4 performances; Hunter Mense, Ryan Curry and Bryan Petersen all had two hits.

Petersen's two-hit night extended his current home hitting streak to a league-leading, 17 games.

Along with their six errors, the Hoppers struggled on the mound by giving up 14 hits, including nine from Voss in his three innings of action. Voss was tagged with the loss and dropped to 2-4 on the year.

Tom Hickman attempted to spark Greensboro late with a two-run home run in the seventh inning, but the Hoppers were only able to pull within four before the inning ended.

Greensboro and Kannapolis return to action Friday in a 7:00 p.m. contest where RHP Stu Alexander (6-6, 4.24) will take the mound against RHP Charlie Shirek (2-4, 3.50).
