Honkers Walk-Off in Win over Loggers

Rochester, Minn. - Alex Fitchett (Hawaii) hit a walk-off RBI single to drive home Josh Davis (Pepperdine) to give the Honkers a 6-5 win over the La Crosse Loggers in 10 innings at Mayo Field Wednesday night.
Davis singled with two outs to get on base, and advanced to second on the throw. Fitchett then stepped up and lined a single to right field to end the game.
Jacob Thomas (UC Davis) hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the second to give the Honkers a 3-0 lead early in the game.
Cullen Large (William Mary) hit an RBI single to get the Loggers on the board, and then Grant Fennell (Nevada) launched a two-run home run to score Large to tie the game at three in the third.
In the fifth, the Honkers scored two runs to take a 5-3 lead, when Kyle Kasser (Oregon) and Turner Buis (Cal State Fullerton) each scored unearned runs.
The Loggers came back and scored two runs in the eighth to tie things up. Kyle Plantier (UC-Santa Barbara) singled to score one run, and other run came in on a Honker error to make the score 5-5.
Fitchett was able to end things in the 10th with his single, and give the Honkers a 6-5 win.
Robert Paccione (LIU - Post) got the start for the Honkers; he went seven innings, allowed three runs on six hits, walked three and struck out five. Cameron Aufderheide (1-0) (Saddle Back) threw three innings in relief to get the win; he allowed two unearned runs on one hit.
Jonathan Teaney (San Diego) got the start for the Loggers; he went 4.2 innings, allowed five runs, three of them earned, on five hits, walked two and struck out five. Cason Sherrod (2-2) (Texas A&M) took the loss for the Loggers; he went 1.2 innings, allowed one run on two hits, walked two and struck out three.
Davis went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, and Thomas was 2-for-4 with one run scored and three RBI to lead the Honkers.
Fennell went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI to lead the Loggers, while Mason McCoy (Iowa) went 2-for-5 with a run scored.
The Honkers move to 8-11 in the second half and 15-39 overall with the win, while the Loggers fall to 8-9 in the second half and 25-28 overall.
The Honkers will host the Thunder Bay Boarder Cats on Thursday at Mayo Field, which is Salute to Veterans Night! All active and inactive Military Members that show their Military ID will get a general admission ticket for FREE, presented by Broadway Plaza! First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and gates open at 6!
