(Rochester, Minn.) - The Rochester Honkers announced today the signing of right-handed pitcher Rick Delgado of University of California, Riverside, for the 2016 Northwoods League season. Delgado pitched for the Honkers in the 2015 Northwoods League season.
Delgado, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound junior from Antioch Cal., holds a 0-6 record in 10 appearances (nine starts) with UC-Riverside with a 5.57 ERA, striking out 26 and issuing 20 walks in 53.1 innings pitched, which leads the team. His 26 strikeouts are third on the team and is tied for a team high nine starts.
With the Honkers in 2015, Delgado went 3-1 with a 2.46 ERA in one start, striking out 14, walking eight in 15 appearances. He also registered two saves.
In his lone start for the Honkers, Delgado went seven innings, giving up only four hits, two walks and struck out two.
In his first two collegiate seasons at San Joaquin Delta, Delgado went a combined 10-3 with 74 strikeouts in 112.1 innings pithed. In his sophomore season he went 9-0 with one save, striking out 60, walking 23 in 83.2 innings pitched.
UC-Riverside battles Big West Conference rival, Cal State Northridge in Riverside, Cal. for a three-game series April 29,,30, May 1.
The Rochester Honkers 23rd season begins on May 31st when the team travels to Eau Claire, Wisconsin to take on the Express. The following night, Wednesday, June 1st, the Honkers battle the Express in their home opener at Mayo Field at 7:05 pm. Season Tickets, Bonus Books, Suites and Patios are now available.
