Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - In the first meeting between the two teams this season, the Reno Aces took an early lead and never looked back to defeat the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 10-1 at Greater Nevada Field on Monday night.

Kyle Wren got the Sky Sox off to a good start in the first. On Reno starter Brandon Shipley's (8-5, 3.70) third pitch of the game, Wren blasted a leadoff home run to right field, his first career Triple-A home run, to give the Sky Sox a quick 1-0 lead.

The lead wouldn't last. With two outs and two runners aboard against Sky Sox starter Josh Hader (0-3, 7.16) in the bottom half, Kyle Jensen hit a home run of his own, a three run blast, to put the Aces ahead 3-1 after one.

A run scoring groundout added a run for the Aces in the second. Then Peter O'Brien drove in another pair of runs with a double off Hader in the third to increase the Reno lead to 6-1 after three.

With two outs and the bases loaded in the fourth, the Sky Sox turned to Brent Suter out of the bullpen to try to escape damage. Suter induced a fly out from Jensen to end the inning and leave the bases loaded. Hader finished with six runs against, five earned, on six hits while striking out three in three and two thirds innings pitched. Hader suffered his third loss of the season.

Suter pitched a scoreless inning and a third before Sam Freeman entered for the Sky Sox. In the sixth, Jensen hit a grand slam off Freeman, his second home run of the night, to increase the Reno lead to 10-1 after six.

Shipley earned his eighth win of the season for the Aces by pitching seven strong innings, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out seven.

Damien Magnifico pitched a scoreless eighth with a pair of strikeouts for the Sky Sox.

Reno relievers Kaleb Fleck and Jimmie Sherfy combined to pitch the final two innings to finish off the win.

For the Aces, Jensen homered two times and drove in seven to lead his team to victory.

Wren, Garin Cecchini, and Michael Reed each had a pair of hits for the Sky Sox.

In game two of the series on Tuesday night, Hiram Burgos (5-6, 4.69) is scheduled to get the start for the Sky Sox against Reno right-hander Shelby Miller (NR). First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. MDT.
