January 4, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release

The Lake Erie Monsters fell 4-0 to the Charlotte Checkers Friday night before a crowd of 11,122 fans at Quicken Loans Arena. Rookie goaltender Kieran Millan played in and started his first-ever AHL game for the Monsters, who saw their five-game home win streak come to a close.

Although Lake Erie outshot Charlotte 11-7 in the first period, neither team was able to score in the opening frame.

Riley Nash scored for the Checkers during a delayed penalty situation- his fifth goal of the season- at 10:14 of the second period with a slapshot from the top of the right circle, giving Charlotte a 1-0 lead.

In the third period, former Ohio State standout Zac Dalpe scored twice for the Checkers- at 6:45 and 9:52 (power play)- to give Charlotte a 3-0 lead heading into the final half of the final frame.

Tim Wallace scored a shorthanded goal for the Checkers at 14:53 of the third period to give Charlotte the final 4-0 lead.

Millan stopped 22 of 26 shots; he is 0-1-0-0 after his first AHL start in net. Justin Peters is 12-6-1 after stopping all 23 Monsters shots in net for the Checkers.

The Monsters finish their three-in-three weekend in Hamilton on Saturday night at 7:00 PM, with all the action airing live on AM 1220 WHKW. That will start a string of six straight road games for Lake Erie over the next two weeks; they will return home to The Q on Thursday, January 24th against Toronto.
