(Central Islip, N.Y., May 8, 2008) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Thursday 8-7 in 11 innings at Citibank Park, winning their sixth game in seven home contests this season.

P.J. Rose brought the contest to an end with a bases loaded single in the 11th. The Ducks rallied from an early 4-0 deficit with five runs in the third inning. Ray Navarrete crushed a two-run homer to cut the deficit in half, and Jamie Pogue blasted his first of the year, a three-run job which gave the Ducks the lead. The Blue Crabs regained the advantage with three runs in the fifth. But Carl Everett clubbed his second home run of the season in the seventh to tie the game at seven. Navarrete went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Pogue had a 3-for-5 night as well. Kyle Nichols was the offensive star for Southern Maryland, going 2-for-four with a grand slam home run and five RBI.

Scott Rice (2-0) picked up the win in relief for the Ducks, pitching a scoreless top of the 11th. Chris Gale (0-1) took the loss. Neither Ducks starter Jason Simontacchi nor his counterpart Jeff Farnsworth factored in the decision on a night which featured 12 pitchers used by the two teams combined.

The Ducks continue their four game series against the expansion Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Friday at Citibank Park. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m., and the ballpark gates open at 6:05 p.m. The Ducks will celebrate the Fourth Annual Italian Heritage Night, and the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Penne Rigate Tins, courtesy of DeCecco Pasta.
