AKRON, OH - The Cleveland Indians announced on Thursday that outfielder Tyler Holt has been promoted to the Akron Aeros from the Class-A Carolina Mudcats. Holt is expected to be in uniform for the Aeros game in Erie at 7:05 Thursday night.
Holt, 23, has appeared in 81 games for the Mudcats this year, his second consecutive season at the advanced class-A level. He was hitting .263 with no home runs, 22 RBI and 16 stolen bases for the Mudcats.
A third-year pro, Holt was drafted by the Indians in the 10th round of the 2010 draft. This promotion will mark Holt's first appearance at the Double-A level.
Holt, a native of Gainesville, Florida, played three years at Florida State University, where he was a two-time 2nd Team All-America selection by Collegiate Baseball. He hit .355 during his junior and final season at FSU, with 13 homers and 48 RBI's. He also stole 30 bases in 33 attempts. He started all 199 games of his college career.
The Aeros will continue their six-game road trip tonight in Erie at 7:05. The current trip leads up to the all-star break on July 10th and 11th. The Aeros will next return to Canal Park on July 12th.
