Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Birmingham Barons bested the Montgomery Biscuits 8-3 in front of 7,102 fans at Regions Field, evening the series and approaching the Regions Field attendance record for a five game series.

Southpaw David Holmberg delivered seven strong innings for the Barons, finishing with four strikeouts and three earned runs allowed on just four hits. Both of Holmberg's wins this season have come at home.

Nolan Sanburn pitched a scoreless eighth inning before inheriting three insurance runs on the way to his first save of the season. The Indiana native allowed just one hit in two innings pitched, adding one strikeout.

Eddy Alvarez started the scoring for the Barons, knocking a single in the fourth inning for Birmingham's first hit of the game. The Barons shortstop advanced to third base on a failed pickoff attempt and scored on a wild pitch to give Birmingham an early 1-0 edge.

Joey DeMichele started the Barons fifth frame with a one-out triple before crossing home thanks to a Nick Basto double. Basto then scored on another wild pitch to give Birmingham a 4-0 lead.

Capping off a 2-for-4 game, Basto bashed his second double in as many innings to plate Nicky Delmonico before DeMichele sealed the victory with a three-run home run in the eighth inning to reach the 8-3 final.

LHP Blair Walters returns to the mound at Regions Field, looking to follow up a shutout victory against Tennessee that saw the southpaw toss eight scoreless innings for a 5-0 Barons win over the Smokies.

Of Note: By welcoming 7,102 fans through the gates at Regions Field (a Sunday game record), the Barons are 5,184 fans away from setting a new series record since moving downtown (35,988 fans is the current mark, set 05/04/15 vs TNS).
