Hogberg Records First Career ECHL Win as Beast Down Royals

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - Reggie Traccitto scored the game-winning goal and Marcus Hogberg made 36 saves as the Brampton Beast defeated their North Division rivals, the Reading Royals, 3-1 on Friday night at the Powerade Centre.
The Beast and Royals met for the first time since last spring when Brampton ousted the Philadelphia Flyers affiliate in the first round of the Kelly Cup playoffs.
The Beast wasted no time and got off to a hot start with a goal from Scott Jacklin. The shifty forward was able to find a rebound off of a Stefan Fournier shot that was kicked into the blue paint by Royals goalie John Muse. Jacklin found the loose puck and jammed it home at 3:08 of the first.
Brampton continued its first period assault and this time it was Reggie Traccitto finding pay dirt. The defenseman revved his engine and rushed the puck up the ice. He slipped past a defender and curled off the sideboards before ripping a shot that eluded the goaltender. That gave the Beast a two-goal lead at 5:57 of the first.
Brampton would take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission and would hold the edge in shots to the tune of 18-15.
Brampton didn't let up the pressure in the second and added to their lead with a beautiful goal from Alex Foster. The former Marlies captain received the puck in a smooth passing sequence from Brandon Marino and Willie Corrin and made no mistake, as he fired a laser top corner.
Foster's goal made it 3-0 Brampton at the 5:30 mark of the middle frame. Marcus Hogberg, who was returned to the Beast from the Ottawa Senators this past week, was solid in net through two and made several of key saves to keep it a 3-0 Beast lead into the second intermission.
Hogberg continued to hold the fort in the third as the Beast played a steady period and tried to preserve their lead. With five seconds remaining in the game, the Royals broke Hogberg's shutout with a bouncing deflection off the end boards that was touched by Steve Swavely.
Brampton would close out the game moments later for their fourth consecutive victory. Hogberg made 36 saves and secured both the win for Brampton and the first ECHL win of his career.

Brampton finished the game zero-for-two on the power play while Reading ended the night one-for-five. The Beast and Royals will meet again Sunday at 2 PM in a special Marvel themed game day.
