Hitmen Fall to Pats

Regina, SK - The Western Hockey League's top scorer Sam Steel netted a hat-trick and added an assist to lead the Regina Pats to a 6-2 victory over the Calgary Hitmen on Friday night at the Brandt Centre.

A quick start helped propel Regina as the Pats jumped out to a 3-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the first period. Nick Henry added a pair of goals for the home side while Adam Brooks rounded out the scoring. Regina is now a league best 27-3-6-1 this season.

Jordy Stallard and Matteo Gennero replied for Calgary who opened a four-game East Division road trip. Jake Bean also picked up an assist in his return to the lineup after helping Team Canada win silver at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.

The Pats outshot the Hitmen 35-27 and went 1-3 on the powerplay. Calgary was 0-1.

The Hitmen, 14-18-3-2, continue their four-game East Division road trip tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 7 in Brandon against the Wheat Kings. The swing will also take Calgary to Saskatoon (Jan. 10) and Prince Albert (Jan. 11) before returning to the Scotiabank Saddledome for Faith and Family Night on Saturday, Jan. 14 against the Prince George Cougars. The 7:00 p.m. start will be the beginning of four in a row and six of seven games at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
