Hitmen Fall Short in Regina

Regina, SK - Anaheim Ducks prospect Sam Steel recorded five points with a goal and four assists to power the Regina Pats to a 5-1 victory over the Calgary Hitmen on Saturday night at the Brandt Centre.

The win gives the Pats a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Round 1 Western Hockey League playoff series.

Regina opened the scoring on a Dawson Leedahl first period goal before the Hitmen pulled even on Andrew Fyten's first of the post-season early in the second period. The Pats then took the lead on a 5-on-3 powerplay goal from Adam Brooks a couple of minutes later and never looked back. Leedahl, with his second of the night extended the lead to 3-1 after forty minutes.

In the third, Nick Henry and Steel, into an empty net, rounded out the Pats attack.

Regina outshot the Hitmen 39-27 and went 1-3 on the power play. Calgary was 0-4.

The series now shifts to Alberta and the Scotiabank Saddledome for Game 3 on Tuesday, March 28, and Game 4 on Thursday, March 30. Puck drop is 7:00 p.m. for both contests.
