Calgary Hitmen News Release

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club today announced they have acquired a pair of draft picks in two separate trades with the Regina Pats.

In the first transaction, Calgary receives the Pats sixth-round selection in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft in exchange for 2000 born forward Justyn Gurney.

"Sending Justyn to the Pats provides him with a fresh start while opening up a roster spot for one of our prospects," said Hitmen General Manager Jeff Chynoweth. "We would like to thank Justyn for his time in Calgary and wish him well in Regina."

In a separate deal, the Hitmen also receive the Pats seventh-round pick in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft in return for Calgary's eighth, ninth and 10th-round selections in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.

"With an abundance of early picks in both the 2018 and 2019 drafts, we felt it was in the best interest of our team to move some of our later picks for an earlier selection down the road," added Chynoweth.

Following the trade of Gurney, the Hitmen now have the potential to return 20 players from last season for the 2018/19 campaign which begins in September. The regular season schedule will be released in late June.
