Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Myrtle Beach, SC - The Hillcats lost their final game of the regular season tonight 5-1 to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The loss was their fourth in their final five games. They finished the first half eight over .500 at 39-31, but watched the second half go by with a 33-37 mark. By winning the first half, the 'Cats are bound for the playoffs, which begin Wednesday night in Wilmington, DE against the Blue Rocks.

The Pelican took the early lead with two runs in the first inning tonight. The first three batters singled off Hillcats' starter LHP Dimasther Delgado. The third single came off the bat of Odubel Herrera to drive in Cafe Martinez. Hanser Alberto then scored on a ground ball to shortstop. It was 2-0 Myrtle Beach.

Delgado would only pitch two innings as he is slated to throw game two of the opening playoff round, Thursday night in Lynchburg.

RHP Caleb Brewer entered the game in the third inning. He sat the side down in order in his first frame. The Pelicans got to him thanks to Brewer losing some control. He walked Chris Grayson with one out. Jhonny Gomez then singled to move Grayson to third. A few pitches later, Grayson scored on a wild pitch, making it 3-0 Pelicans.

The 'Cats got on the board in the sixth inning. Nick Ahmed smacked his 36th double of the season, which finishes tied for the most in the Carolina League this season. Tommy La Stella followed with a ground rule double over the right-center field wall. Lynchburg trailed 3-1.

The Pelicans added two more in the seventh inning. LHP Blaine Sims gave up two unearned runs on one hit in the seventh frame. The Birds led 5-1, and that would be the final.

RHP Kyle Devore (3-3) earned the win for the Pelicans completing five and one-third innings, giving up one unearned run on six hits. Delgado (7-7) took the loss surrendering two runs on four hits in two innings.
