THE HILLCATS...open a six-game homestand with the first of three games against the Kinston Indians to kick-off the second half of the season...Were idle each of the last 3 days for the Carolina League All-Star break...Begin the second stanza having matched a season-high by dropping seven consecutive contests ...Despite leading in every game of a three-game set at Salem this past weekend, were swept by their Central Virginia rivals...Over a longer stretch, have lost 14 of their last 16 games...

THE INDIANS...Won the Southern Division first-half crown by virtue of 18 wins in their final 21 games of the half ...At 45-24, own the best overall record in the Carolina League...Had the following 4 players on the CL All-Star roster: C Max Ramirez, INF Chris Giminez, RHP Frank Herrmann and RHP James Deters...Currently lead the league in team pitching with a 3.18 collective ERA and are 2nd in team batting with a .273 overall average...

2007 vs. KINSTON: The Indians have dominated the season series to date, holding a 7-3 edge...Kinston captured the 2006 season series, 12 games to 8...Overall, the Hillcats have an edge in the lifetime series 126-120 (.512) and have posted an impressive 69-51 (.575) mark in 120 all-time match-ups at Lynchburg City Stadium...

ALL STAR GAME: Despite a home run from Hillcats' slugger Jason Delaney, the California League dispateched the Carolina League, 10-5, in their 11th annual All-Star game on Tuesday at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton, CA...Delaney went 2-for-4 with six total bases and a pair of RBIs...

FUTURES GAME: Rosters for the 9th annual XM All-Star Futures Game were announced today and RHP Serguey Linares (see page 7) was named to the World Roster...The 24-year-old has gone 2-3 with a 2.98 ERA in 8 starts between Lynchburg and Low-A Hickory in his first pro season...The Futures Game will feature the top Minor League prospects competing against each other at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Sunday, July 8th...

TRANSACTIONS: The Hillcats made a series of roster moves over the All-Star break...On Monday, OF Jonel Pacheco and RHP Henry Cabrera were assigned to Low-A Hickory while RHP Ronald Uviedo was assigned to State College...On Wednesday, RHP Todd Redmond (see page 7) made a spot start for Double-A Altoona, before returning to the active roster today...Additionally, RHP Jean Garavito (see page 6) has been assigned from Low-A Hickory and OF Pedro Powell (see page 10) has been activated from the Disabled List...The speedster had been sidelined with a sore back...

RETIREMENT: SS Dan Schwartzbauer announced his retirement on Sunday...The Duquesne product was batting .252-0-14 in 47 games this season...He had been sidelined with a sprained wrist since June 8th...Last year, he batted .259-2-55 in 105 games in the CL and led all second basemen with at least 90 games played in fielding percentage (.980) and committed just 10 errors...
