Hill to start against Blue Rocks

Potomac Nationals News Release

WOODBRIDGE, VA - Rehabbing Major Leaguer Shawn Hill will take the ball tonight at G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge as he tries to battle back from right elbow and left shoulder injuries.

Hill, who threw a simulated game at Potomac Monday, started eight games for the Washington Nationals this season before he was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left shoulder. The right-hander went 3-3 in those starts with a 2.70 ERA, striking out 33 batters in 50 innings.

A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, Hill has not pitched since May 11 and has been on the disabled list since May 14, originally because of the left shoulder strain. Hill was the last Canadian to appear in a Montreal Expos uniform, going 1-2 with a 16.00 ERA in three starts during the 2004 season.

Hill missed all of the 2005 campaign after undergoing "Tommy John" surgery, but came back as a pleasant surprise to the Nationals pitching staff in 2006, making six starts, including a six-inning, three-runs allowed performance against the New York Yankees on June 16.

The 25-year-old's most impressive big league performance came against the Philadelphia Phillies, going seven scoreless innings and allowing just two hits, both to National League Most Valuable Player Ryan Howard.

Hill was selected in the sixth round of the 2000 First Year Amateur Draft by Montreal and has posted a 35-27 record in the minors with a 3.12 ERA. Hill is the fourth Washington National to rehab with Potomac this season - Alex Escobar, John Patterson and Luis Ayala have had stints with the P-Nats.
