New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Aaron Hill, a member of the 2004 Eastern League Champion New Hampshire Fisher Cats, and St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter, a New Hampshire native and confirmed guest for the Granite State Baseball Dinner, presented by Northeast Delta Dental, were named Major League Baseball's Comeback Players of the Year today. The awards were voted on by 30 beat writers of MLB.com.

Hill batted .286 with 36 home runs and 108 RBIs for Toronto, both career highs and tops among all major league second baseman. The 2003 first-round draft pick (13th overall) out of LSU was limited to 55 games in 2008 due to a concussion. As a shortstop for the Fisher Cats in 2004, Hill batted .279 with 11 HRs and 80 RBIs in 135 games.

Carpenter, a native of Raymond and a former star at Manchester's Trinity High School, posted a record of 17-4 with a National League-leading 2.24 ERA for the Central Division champion Cardinals after being held to a total of four starts between the 2007 and 2008 seasons. The right-hander was the 2005 National League Cy Young Award Winner and was a member of the World Series Champion Cardinals in 2006. He is scheduled to get the start in game one of the National League Division Series between the Cardinals and the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium.

Carpenter will join Hall of Famer Jim Rice, Bob Stanley, Bob Tewksbury, Jesse Litsch and many more at the Granite State Baseball Dinner, presented by Northeast Delta Dental, on Saturday, November 21, at the Radisson Hotel Expo Center in downtown Manchester, NH. The charitable event benefits the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD), the Ted Williams Museum and the Fisher Cats Foundation, a statewide charitable organization that provides scholarships to college-bound New Hampshire and Massachusetts high school seniors.
