Hickory Tops Power in Homestand Finale

(Charleston, WV, August 19, 2013): The Hickory Crawdads defeated the West Virginia Power 5-3 in the final game of the season series between the two teams Monday evening at Appalachian Power Park. With the loss, the Power remain a half game behind Hagerstown in the divisional race but still lead the Crawdads by 1.5 games in the overall standings.

West Virginia scored the first run in the game in the fifth inning. Jon Schwind hit a two-out single and stole second. After Kawika Emsley-Pai was hit by a pitch, Chris Diaz brought home Schwind with an RBI single to center.

The Crawdads responded in their next turn on offense by scoring two runs. Kevin Torres scored on an error by Max Moroff to tie the game. Luis Marte scored from third after a sacrifice fly by Alejandro Selen.

The Power reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. Dilson Herrera led off the inning with a double to left center and scored on a Raul Fortunato single, tying the game at two. After Emsley-Pai walked, Diaz collected his second RBI of the game with a two-out base hit up the middle, scoring Fortunato.

With two outs and one strike against Lewis Brinson, Hickory took another lead. Brinson hit his 20th home run of the season down the left field line, giving the Crawdads a 4-3 lead. David Lyon followed with a solo shot to right for the Crawdads' final run.

Joe Burns (4-3) received the win after tossing 1.1 innings and striking out four batters. Cesar Lopez (2-2) took the loss after blowing a save in the ninth and allowing three earned runs. Sam Wolff picked up his fourth save in eight games.

The Power will play seven games over six days on the road. West Virginia will travel to Charleston, SC to play the Riverdogs for three games followed by four against the Savannah Sand Gnats. The Power return home Tuesday, August 27th for their last three-games at Appalachian Power Park in the regular season. Tickets and additional information are available at (304) 344-BATS.
