He's Back - Walleye Forward Returns

Toledo, OH - In 2014-15 he set a single season Walleye record with 36 goals and forward Kyle Bonis has agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye for the 2016-17 season.

Bonis split the 2015-16 season between the Walleye and the San Diego Gulls of the AHL. In Toledo, the 27-year-old posted 14 goals and 11 assists in 32 games with another four goals and six helpers in 32 contests for the Gulls. Over two seasons in Toledo, Bonis has scored 50 goals with 34 assists in just 97 contests. He has averaged nearly a point per game in his ECHL career with a total of 129 points (75G, 54A) in 162 games played. "Kyle continues to be a consistent performer in our league that we can count on each and every night," Head Coach Dan Watson said. "His hard work and dedication to his craft earned him a great opportunity at the AHL level last year. It says about Kyle's personality that he wanted to return to Toledo in hopes of bringing a championship to the city." His first season (2014-15) was a huge success in Toledo with a single season Walleye record 36 goals to go along with 23 assists. Bonis added nine more goals to his totals during the 2015 Kelly Cup Playoffs, including an overtime shorthanded goal in game seven of the Division Semi-Finals to allow Toledo to advance. The Lindsay, Ontario native finished the 2015 postseason with 15 points (9G, 6A) in 21 contests. In four years at Ferris State (2009-2013), Bonis picked up 47 goals and 30 assists over 136 total games played. As a senior in 2012-13, he scored 19 goals, was Second Team for the Senior CLASS Award and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. He helped the Bulldogs win a CCHA regular season championship in the 2011-12 season with a college high 31 points (19G, 12A). The Toledo Walleye return to the Huntington Center for their home opener on Saturday, October 22, when they face the Brampton Beasts.
