Albany Devils News Release
Lowell, Mass. - Joey Tenute's goal in the third period snapped a tie score and led to a 3-1 victory for the Hershey Bears (37-17-2-9) over the Lowell Lock Monsters (25-29-5-5) at Tsongas Arena on Wednesday night.
Hershey took the lead with 7:19 remaining in the first period. Boyd Kane took advantage of a loose puck that bounced out in front of G Craig Kowalski, and banged it past the sprawled netminder for the 1-0 lead. After coming out to a strong start in the period, Lowell spent much of the first on the defensive, being outshot 13-4.
Lowell had better pressure in the second period. They outshot the Bears 13-8 in the frame and had the puck in the offensive zone for most of the second half of the period. Keith Aucoin continued his hot hand by tying the score late in the second. The reigning CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week got his stick on Anton Babchuk's blast, redirecting it past G Frederic Cassivi to make it 1-1. Paul Healey also extended his point streak to four games with an assist.
Hershey broke the tie at 6:14 of the third. Kowalski made a series of saves with Lowell scrambling to get the puck, but Joey Tenute gathered in a rebound and shelved it for his 14th of the season. Lowell put 10 shots on goal in the third to attempt to tie the score again, but Hershey's defense did not let up. The Monsters pulled Kowalski for the extra attacker, but Mark Wotton's empty netter from his own blueline sealed the win.
The Monsters host the Springfield Falcons this Sunday, March 12th at 4:05 p.m. Sundays are Family Four Pack games, featuring 4 tickets, 4 scrumptious hot dogs and 4 refreshing Pepsis for just $49.
