Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, Calif. - Jose Hernandez tossed a seven-inning complete game shutout, as the JetHawks earned a doubleheader split with the High Desert Mavericks with a 2-0 win in game two on Wednesday night at The Hangar. They dropped game one, 14-4.

It was the second consecutive complete game for Hernandez (3-3) against the Mavericks. The right-hander allowed seven hits, struck out six, and did not issue a walk. The shutout was the second for a Lancaster pitcher this season. Trent Thornton, now with Double-A Corpus Christi, threw the other on July 14 against San Jose in game one of a doubleheader.

Both of the runs for Lancaster came on solo homers. Bryan Muniz led off the bottom of the second with his 13th of the season. Johnny Sewald blasted his sixth with one out in the third.

David Ledbetter (6-9) pitched all six innings for High Desert, but suffered the loss. He allowed four hits, walked three, and struck out four.

In game one, the JetHawks fell behind 5-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth. Luke Tendler, the second batter of the game, hit a solo home run to put High Desert on the board. Jose Trevino 's two-out, two-run double in the third inning made it 3-0. Elio Castillo added a two-run double in the fourth.

Jamie Ritchie hit a two-run homer to get the JetHawks back in the game in the fourth, but High Desert opened it up with three runs in the sixth and six in the seventh. Juremi Profar and Elio Castillo each had three RBI in the contest. Despite the large margin of victory, the Mavericks only out-hit the JetHawks 12-11.

Kyle Tucker, a day after coming a home run shy of the cycle, went deep for the first time with the JetHawks. The 19-year- old hit a two-run shot to dead center field.

Nick Gardewine (5-1) earned the win in relief for High Desert, pitching the final two innings.

The JetHawks (72-57) and Mavericks (76-53) conclude their four-game series on Thursday night at The Hangar. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.

The JetHawks are celebrating their 20th anniversary season in Lancaster. Great ticket packages and group events are on sale now at jethawks.com or by calling (661) 726-5400.
