East Kentucky Miners News Release

PIKEVILLE, KY. - Two East Kentucky Miners have earned a spot on the 2007-08 Continental Basketball Association (CBA) All-Rookie Team. East Kentucky forward Marcus Heard and guard Mike Crain were two of the five players selected for the latest edition of the CBA All-Rookie Team, which was announced Monday. The league's 10 head coaches voted on the All-Rookie Team.

"Marcus Heard and Mike Crain are both well-deserving of the All-Rookie recognition," said East Kentucky Coach Kevin Keathley. "Both players put together solid rookie seasons."

Yakama center Anthony Washington was named the CBA Rookie of the Year for the 2007-08 season. Washington finished the season averaging 7.0 points and 3.6 rebounds a game for National Conference Champion Yakama. The 6-10 center from Portland State shot an average of 68.2-percent from the field and blocked 1.2 blocks per game. Washington was an undrafted rookie for the Sun Kings. He is the first Yakama player to win the Rookie of the Year award since Bernard Hopkins in 1997. Hopkins shared the award with former Sun Kings player Jason Sasser.

Crain, a part-time starter, averaged 10 points per game for the Miners. The Valdosta State product shot 44-percent (30-of-68) from beyond the three-point arc.

Heard, a first-year player from DePaul, averaged 6.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game for the expansion East Kentucky team. Pittsburgh guard Tyrone Anderson and Atlanta guard Bilal Simmons rounded out the CBA All-Rookie Team.
