News Release

In front of a sellout crowd, the Mud Hens fell to the Clippers for a third straight time in the series, this time a final of 3-0.

JaCoby Jones, Juan Perez, and Jason Krizan each collected two hits in the contest, but Toledo left 12 men on base and were shutout by a pitcher-by-committee from Columbus.

Vasquez allowed a double in the top of the first but stranded him as he recorded a scoreless frame. JaCoby Jones doubled with one out in the bottom half of the inning, but got no further as the first inning ending in a scoreless tie.

The Clippers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning against Vasquez. Adam Moore reached on a leadoff walk and Nellie Rodriguez singled to start the inning. Vasquez retired the next two batters, but a two-out knock from Yandy Diaz scored Moore to give Columbus the early advantage.

Throwing the first four innings for Columbus was Julian Merryweather, who allowed just one base runner in his outing before giving up the ball to Chris Narveson . Merryweather retired the final 11 batters he faced, while striking out six Mud Hens' hitters.

Against Narveson in the bottom of the fifth, Juan Perez and Jason Krizan each singled with one out to give Toledo its best scoring chance of the contest up to that point. The next two Hens hitters would go down and end the threat and keep the game at 1-0 in favor of Columbus after five innings.

Vasquez threw a scoreless top of the sixth to finish off his day, allowing just one run on six hits, walking one and striking out six.

In the bottom of the sixth, Jones recorded his second hit of the game on a broken bat single to right. Jim Adduci followed with a double into the right field corner, but a perfect relay gunned out Jones at home to retain the Columbus lead. After six, the Clippers led 1-0.

Logan Kensing entered in the top of the seventh and retired the Clippers in order. The Hens loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of hits and a two-out walk from Argenis Diaz after a 10-pitch battle with Narveson. Columbus escaped the inning unscathed as Tyler Collins fouled out in foul territory to end the inning.

Both teams were held off the board in the eighth inning and Jeff Ferrell came in to pitch the top of the ninth. The Clippers jumped on him right away with three straight hits to score a pair of runs on RBI doubles from Erik Kratz and Ronny Rodriguez .

In the bottom of the ninth, a two-out double from Jason Krizan was all the Toledo offense could muster as they fell for a third straight time to Columbus.

The series finale will be played on Sunday at 4:05 p.m.
