Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush along with Head Coach Greg Poss announced today that defenseman Trevor Hendrikx has signed a contract for the 2010-11 season, making him the seventh player signed by the Everblades for the upcoming season.

Hendrikx joins the Everblades after splitting the 2009-10 season in the ECHL between the Johnstown Chiefs and Charlotte Checkers. The 25-year-old began the season with Johnstown where he posted 25 points (6g, 19a) and 164 penalty minutes in 43 games before being traded to Charlotte on March 12. Hendrikx finished off the regular season netting four points (2g, 2a) and 36 PIM in 12 games with the Checkers then chipped in six points (2g, 4a) in 11 Kelly Cup Playoff games.

"Trevor is a real stable two-way defenseman who had a strong finish to last season in Charlotte." Poss said. "He'll bring a needed element of toughness to our team and is the kind of player that will be a physical force in our zone. We're going to look for him to make it difficult for opposing players to get into the scoring area."

In 2008-09 the Russell, Ontario native tallied a career-high nine goals in 49 games with the Chiefs while adding 145 PIM. His best professional season came in 2007-08 when he notched 31 points (8g, 23a) and 170 PIM in 72 games with the Elmira Jackals. As a rookie in 2006-07 the 6-foot-2, 205 pound blue-liner recorded 11 points and 88 PIM in 41 games with the Dayton Bombers.

Prior to turning pro Hendrikx spent five seasons at the junior level with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League, improving his numbers each year. In his last two seasons with the Petes, Hendrikx tallied 104 points (24g, 80a) and 223 PIM in 128 games. Overall in his five-year junior career he finished with 149 points and 596 PIM in 293 games.

Hendrikx was twice drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League, first in 2003 when he was selected in the ninth round, and again in 2005 when he was selected in the seventh round.
