Helm Recalled By Red Wings

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Grand Rapids Griffins center Darren Helm was recalled by the Detroit Red Wings on Monday.

Helm, 22, appeared in 16 games with the Red Wings this season, contributing one assist while averaging 12:25 in ice time. As a rookie last spring, he tallied four points (2-2-4) in 18 playoff games with Detroit to earn a spot for his name on the Stanley Cup.

Helm will be available to play for the Wings this Thursday when they host Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals against the Columbus Blue Jackets at 7 p.m.

In 55 games with the Griffins this season, Helm tallied 37 points (13-24-37) and led Grand Rapids with three shorthanded goals.

The Griffins will begin their chase for the Calder Cup against the Hamilton Bulldogs in the North Division Semifinals. Games 1 and 2 are set for Hamilton's Copps Coliseum this Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18. The series will then shift to Van Andel Arena for Games 3-5 on Monday, April 20, Wednesday, April 22 and (if necessary) Friday, April 24.
