Abbotsford Heat News Release

Peoria, IL - The Abbotsford Heat lost 2-1 in a shootout to the Peoria Rivermen (AHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues) on Monday evening to close out a six-game stretch away from home.

Krys Kolanos extended his point streak to four games with his fourth power play goal of the season and Barry Brust made 36 saves in regulation, but the home team won with two goals in the five-round shootout. The Heat close 2012 with a record of 16-9-3-4, and hold down fourth spot in the Western Conference through 32 games.

Kolanos opened the scoring on the power play with his ninth goal of the season at 2:34 of the second period. Ben Street and T.J. Brodie drew assists on Kolanos' fourth goal in his last four games.

The Rivermen tied the game at 7:35 of the third period when Taylor Chorney ended Barry Brust's shutout bid. Chorney's second goal of the season was set up by Derek Nesbitt and Ian Cole.

Tied at one goal apiece after 60 minutes the game went to overtime. Krys Kolanos was called for delay of game after batting a centering pass out of play in his own zone. The Heat killed off the full two minutes of the four-on-three disadvantage. After a scoreless five minute overtime period a shootout was required to decide the game.

The Rivermen scored twice in the shootout, while Paul Byron was the lone goal scorer for the Heat in five rounds.

Barry Brust made his second straight start, stopping 29 of 30 shots in regulation before making another seven saves in overtime, and three stops in the shootout. The Heat outshot the Rivermen 34-30 in regulation, but were outshot 37-36 through 65 minutes.

Abbotsford scored once on three power play opportunities, while the penalty kill erased all four Peoria man advantages.

The Heat open 2013 with eight straight home games beginning with the Rochester Americans (AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres) on January 4th and 5th, and the Chicago Wolves on January 11th and 12th. For tickets please call 1-877-452-HEAT(4328) or visit us online at www.AbbotsfordHeat.com.
