Heat Blaze Past Reign 6-3 in Must-Win Game

April 12, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Stockton Heat News Release

STOCKTON, CALIF. - Facing a must-win game, the Stockton Heat played one of their most complete efforts of the season to come away with a 6-3 victory against the Ontario Reign on Wednesday at Stockton Arena. Stockton's special teams' inefficiency against the Reign was the story coming into the game, but the Heat managed to score a power-play goal, a shorthanded goal, and kill off all four Ontario power-plays to help win the special teams battle and the game. Combined with Tucson's shutout of the San Diego Gulls, Stockton's playoff chances are still alive as the Heat ready for another must-win game on Friday in Ontario. Stockton got off to a hot start with two goals in 59 seconds, but saw Ontario knot the game up with goals 55 seconds apart. Just before the end of the period though, Emile Poirier made a smart play to the front of the net, resulting in Ryan Lomberg recording his second point of the night, tapping one past Ontario goalie Cal Petersen to regain the lead. The Heat would never relinquish that lead as they added three in the second period, including Lomberg's third point of the night and would hold on for the win. The Heat clash with the Reign for the final time this season at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Citizens Business Bank Arena for the final road contest of the season. Fans can catch all the action on AHL Live. Stockton then returns home to close out the regular season by hosting San Jose one final time at Stockton Arena on Saturday at 6:00 for Fan Appreciation Night, where every fan in the building will have a chance to win a jersey off a Heat player's back! Fans can purchase a four pack of tickets featuring four hats, four hot dogs and 4 sodas for just $44 for any of our remaining home games by visiting stocktonheat.com/finalfourpack or by calling 209.373.1500.
