Soo Greyhounds News Release

Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis is pleased to announce today the commitment from 2016 draft pick BARRETT HAYTON.

The Peterborough, ON product was the Greyhounds 1st Round pick (9th overall) in this past April's OHL Priority Selection.

"We are very excited to announce the commitment from first round draft pick, Barrett Hayton. Barrett shows great promise as Greyhound embodying the qualities we look for in a student/athlete. He is coming off a great season with the Toronto Red Wings on the ice and in the classroom attending the prestigious Upper Canada College" began Raftis.

"Barrett is a tremendously skilled forward that has an extremely high hockey IQ who will add another great piece to our lineup. We look forward in maximizing his potential during his time with the Soo Greyhounds hockey program" he continued.

The 6.01, 179-lb centreman played last season with the Toronto Red Wings Minor Midget hockey club. In 59 regular season games played he tallied 36 goals and 37 assists, good for 74 points.

At the OHL Cup, Hayton had 6 points in five games played while later grabbing 3 goals in five games with Team GTHL Blue at the OHL Gold Cup.

Hayton, who was in Sault Ste. Marie in May for the team's Development Camp, will be among the roster of Training Camp in late August.
