August 21, 2013 - Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) - Lincoln Haymakers
Lincoln, NE- The Lincoln Haymakers of the CPIFL (Champions Pro Indoor Football League) have kicked off the indoor football signing period with a bang, landing former Oregon Ducks' Quarterback Darron Thomas for the 2014 season. Thomas' college resume speaks for itself leading the Ducks to the 2011 BCS National Championship as well as a win in the 2012 Rose Bowl.
Head Coach Trever Whiting commented "Darron adds things that not many players have experienced. He's been on some of the biggest stages in college football and had success. He's not only a dynamic player but he's a dynamic person as well and will be an outstanding representative of the Haymakers organization." Thomas will compete in camp this winter to earn the starting job inside Coach Whiting's new offensive unit.
In just his first season as a starter, Darron passed for 30 touchdowns and 2,881 yards leading the Ducks to a 12-0 regular season and a Pac-12 Championship title. The following year Thomas set a season school record tossing 33 touchdowns as he guided the Ducks to another Pac-12 Championship with a victory over the Wisconsin Badgers in the Rose Bowl. Darron was only the third player in Pac-12 history to throw for over 30 touchdowns in two seasons and was a finalist for the 2011 Davey O'Brien Award.
Darron Thomas will be reunited with his high school football coach Bob Jones who is currently the Offensive and Defensive Line Coach for the Haymakers. Jones coached Thomas as Aldine High School in Houston, Texas helping him earn a scholarship at Oregon.
The Haymakers will continue to build their roster for the 2014 season as they anticipate the league schedule being released this fall. Lincoln's free agent open tryout will take place October 12th with more information on lincolnhaymakers.com.
