Haymakers Sign Former NFL Lineman Jean-Gilles Along with More Offensive Weapons
August 27, 2013 - Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) - Lincoln Haymakers News Release
Lincoln, NE- The Lincoln Haymakers would like to announce the signing of former Philadelphia Eagles Guard Max Jean-Gilles as well as WR Marquis Rolle, WR Tyson Williams and OL Derek Morris to next season's roster. Lincoln has a strong start to the roster for 2014 adding two top notch receivers, and two versatile lineman hoping to jumpstart the Haymakers offensive attack under first year Head Coach Trever Whiting.
Max Jean-Gilles signs with Lincoln after playing four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL where he played in 29 games with 16 starts. He was drafted 99th overall in the 2006 NFL Draft by the Eagles. Jean-Gilles played at Georgia from 2002-2005 under coach Mark Richt's SEC squad where he was selected as a First Team All-SEC and a consensus First Team All American his senior year. Max also started the 2005 SEC Championship game helping the Bulldogs win the SEC title. A player of Jean-Gilles athletic talent and experience could potentially be a huge upgrade on the offensive line when camp opens up this winter.
Marquis Rolle was Lincoln's second best wide-out last year logging 17 catches for 252 yards and 3 touchdowns in 10 games. Rolle's speed and athletic potential caught the new coaching staff's attention as they invite the speedy receiver back for another season. Rolle ranks fifth all time in all-purpose yards for the Haymakers providing a solid receiving target as well as a talented kick returner on special teams. Rolle also racked up 6 solo tackles on special teams adding to his value on a roster with limited positions available.
Tyson Williams, a 5'11" 210 pound, wide receiver from Texas Tech joins the Haymakers this year looking to put his abilities on display under the lights in Lincoln after an impressive career in college. Williams started his college career at West Texas A&M where he received All-American honors his sophomore year after reeling in 96 receptions totaling 1,321 yards. In 11 games that season, Tyson racked up 8 receiving touchdowns before transferring to Texas Tech. Williams played in 12 games in 2012 with the Red Raiders starting 6, and impressing early on with 35 catches for 352 yards and 2 TD's. Williams will rejoin his high school coach and quarterback from Aldine High with Haymakers Line Coach Bob Jones and Quarterback Darron Thomas.
Out of high school, Derek Morris was ranked as the fourth best tackle by Rivals.com and was the first offensive lineman ever to be voted Shrine Bowl MVP. Morris played college football at North Carolina State from 2003-2005 where he started 22 of 25 games with the Wolfpack. Morris caught the eye of two NFL organizations as a free agent but did not make a final roster. Morris will compete for a spot on the offensive line this season as the Haymakers look to sure up a position that was weak last year. Morris' 6'6" frame and athletic ability could potentially anchor the O-line next spring.
Head Coach Trever Whiting has shown a strong commitment to building the Haymakers roster with an outstanding offseason signing period. The Lincoln coaching staff is very excited about how the team is taking shape early on. The Haymakers are committed to producing a quality product on the field with class. With player signings continuing, stay connected with your Haymakers on lincolnhaymakers.com, Facebook, and Twitter.
