Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

The Fargo Force swept a week-long three-game series against the Waterloo Black Hawks Saturday, as three different players scored two goals apiece in a 6-1 decision at Scheels Arena.

Neither team converted an opportunity during a scoreless first period, although the Hawks and Force divided 25 chances nearly down the middle. There were few second chances as both Eamon McAdam and Brendan Jensen controlled rebounds effectively.

Fargo pulled ahead 2:43 into the second period. Gabe Guertler was credited with the score created from behind the Waterloo net. On a power play at 10:40, the Force made it 2-0 when Dominic Toninato redirected a Taylor Fleming point shot past McAdam.

Gage Torrel banged a rebound into the net less than a minute after the second intermission, cuing a big third period for the home team. The Force scored three more times as a result of defensive or neutral zone turnovers. Torrel blasted a shot into the net from the slot at 9:08. Toninato lifted a puck to the opposite corner three minutes later, and Guertler capped Fargo's scoring with 4:42 to play, slipping a chance over the goal line.

With just 25.5 seconds to play, Mark Friedman broke up Jensen's shutout bid, rifling a puck from the top of the right wing circle. Brandon Salerno had created Waterloo's last shot of the night and was credited with an assist, after rushing into the offensive zone to make the play. Jensen stopped the Hawks 45 earlier opportunities. McAdam made 44 saves.

After three consecutive games against the Force, the Black Hawks turn their attention to the USHL-leading Dubuque Fighting Saints in preparation for a game at Young Arena Friday. Tickets for the Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup Series matchup are going quickly but can be ordered online from waterlooblackhawks.com, or by phone at (319) 291-7680.
